THE ART OF CARTIER (1992)

St Petersburg, Hermitage Museum

This exhibition allowed Cartier to revisit its past as official purveyor to the Russian imperial court. Amid a spirit of renewal as Leningrad had just been renamed St Petersburg, The Art of Cartier exhibition opened in the gilded surrounds of the Hermitage Museum, rekindling the splendour of a bygone age: Kokoshnik tiaras, objets de vertu and enamelled decorative pieces made for a brilliant display in the history-steeped setting of St George’s Hall, the principal throne room.
